CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy's Erin Fortner (So., Villa Hills, Ky.) was selected to the 2011 Patriot League All-Academic Team for the sport of volleyball. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday.

Fortner concluded her freshman year at Navy with a 3.62 grade-point average. The oceanography major was named to the both the Superintendent's and Commandant's Lists for the 2010 fall term, as well as to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll a year ago for her efforts in the classroom.

On the volleyball court this season, the sophomore began the year as Navy's starting setter but ended it as an outside hitter. Fortner averaged 8.22 assists per set in her 15 matches as a setter and 3.21 kills per set in her eight matches as an attacker. She dished out at least 30 assists in four matches and posted double figure kills in an equal number of contests. Fortner also produced four double-doubles over the course of the entire 2011 season.

To be eligible for the all-academic team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in the classroom with a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve in their sport.

This is the second season of existence for the all-academic team in the league.
