ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk announced today that Mike Schwob is stepping down as the head coach of the Navy women's volleyball program.

"Coach Schwob has been an outstanding role model and representative of the Academy throughout his tenure," said Gladchuck. "His leadership and contributions to Navy volleyball will always be appreciated by the many varsity athletes and staff whose lives he has touched. I am very pleased Mike will continue to influence and educate our midshipmen through new and important responsibilities within our physical mission."

Schwob has been affiliated with Navy volleyball for 23 seasons, the last 15 in the position as the head coach. His teams won at least 20 matches on four occasions and made a pair of appearances in the title match of the league tournament.

Schwob also has served as the head coach of the men's and women's All-Navy Volleyball Teams multiple times over the last decade. He most recently led the women's team to the Gold Medal at the 2008 Armed Forces Tournament.

A tenured associate professor at the Naval Academy, Schwob will remain on staff as part of the USNA's physical education department.

"It has been an honor for myself and my family to have been associated with Navy volleyball for over two decades," said Schwob, who also served five seasons as the head coach of the Navy men's volleyball team. "Having the opportunity to work with tremendous student-athletes who developed into outstanding leaders of the Navy and Marine Corps is something I cherish. I want to thank the players I have had the privilege to coach for their efforts and dedication to the program. I look forward to contributing to the Naval Academy's physical mission through my continued affiliation with the physical education department."

A national search will commence immediately to find Navy's next coach.
