Women's Cross Country Goes 4-0 At Mount St. Mary's 5k Dual Meet
Emmittsburg, Md. – Junior Kelley Robinson’s (Nederland, Colo.) third-place finish led Navy women’s cross country to a 4-0 sweep at the Mount St. Mary’s 5k Dual Meet Friday. Navy defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 15-50, Maryland, 15-50, American, 18-45 and UMBC, 27-32.
“Heading into this season I was really excited for our team and the potential it has to compete at such a high level and today was the first step in that direction,” Navy head coach Karen Boyle said. “The cohesion of this group and the way they ran today to begin the season is a good sign for things to come.”
Of the 69 total runners, Robinson led the Mids with a third-place finish overall, crossing the tape at 18:08.22 The junior runner slashed 21 seconds off her time from last season’s meet. Junior Michelle Nelson (Severna Park, Md.) and senior Annie-Norah Beveridge (Ann Arbor, Mich.) both finished in the top ten, placing seventh (18:21.09) and 10th(18:25.84), respectively.
Following Robinson, Nelson and Beveridge was Nikki Funkhauser (Littleton, Colo.), Meghan Harvey (Nottingham, Pa.), Allison Parks (Lisbon, Ohio) and Christina Blair (Peninsula, Ohio) finishing 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th within six seconds of one another.Navy will have a week off before hosting its annual Salty Dog Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the USNA Cross Country Course.
