ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior Justine Whipple (Duxbury, Mass.) finished second overall out of 73 runners, while six other Midshipmen runners placed in the top-nine as Navy recorded six dual meet victories in the Salty Sea Dog Open on Saturday at the USNA Cross Country Course.

Navy posted 15-50 wins over Berry, George Washington, Howard and UMBC, while registering an 18-45 victory against Colgate and 20-43 win versus American.

"I am excited that we were able to run well on our own course today," stated head coach Karen Boyle. "It's early in the season. Our main focus is getting a small split between our first and seventh runners."

Whipple covered the 6K course in 23:13.21 to lead all Navy finishers for the second consecutive week. Last week, the junior earned Patriot League Runner of the Week recognition after placing 14th out of 210 runners at the Fordham Invitational. Junior Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo.) followed up with an overall third-place time of 23:51.49.

The fifth- through ninth-place runners all donned the Navy blue and gold. Sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) crossed the finish line in 24:10.90, proceeded by junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.) with a 24:19.73 showing and sophomore Kyleigh Millhouse (Boiling Springs, Pa.) finished the race in 24:26.83. Junior Beth Catherwood (Bethesda, Md.) and freshman Sammy Jo Andrews (Pewaukee, Wisc.) served as placeholders for the Mids, as Catherwood recorded a 24:29.33 effort and Andrews ended with a time of 24:32.12.

Six other Midshipmen landed in the overall top-20 on Saturday. Freshman Tara Lenn (Mobile, Ala.) finished 11th, sophomore Arwyn Becker (Avon, Colo.) placed 13th, junior Jade Baum (Columbia, Pa.) following in 14th-place, sophomore Shannon Reese (Lancaster, Pa.) landed 17th, proceeded by freshman Chelsea Decker (Middlebrook, Va.) in 18th-place and senior Anna Latorre (White Marsh, Md.) finished 20th.

Saturday's meet was Navy's only home race of the season, as the Midshipmen head on the road for the rest of the season.

Navy returns to action next Saturday at the 20th annual Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The race is scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m.
