Women’s Cross Country Honored for Academic Prowess
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s cross country program was recognized on Wednesday for the second time in a matter of days for its achievements in competition and the classroom. The Patriot League and Eastern College Athletic Conference each released their organization’s respective academic lists. Nine Mids were named to the 2017 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, while five garnered a nod on the ECAC President’s and Academic Honor Rolls.
To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester. The requirements for ECAC honors is slightly different as the organization requires student-athletes to have completed an entire academic year, whereas freshmen are eligible for the Patriot League list. The ECAC divides its honor roll into student-athletes with GPAs of 3.6 or better (President’s Honor Roll) and those between 3.2 and 3.59 (Academic Honor Roll).
Junior Erin McDonnell (Traverse City, Mich.) and sophomore Marie Jendrysik (Sarasota, Fla.) highlight Navy’s Patriot League award winners as McDonnell (3.25 GPA, Honors Oceanography) is now a three-time honoree, while Jendrysik (4.00 GPA, Ocean Engineering) makes the list for the second straight year with a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Junior Rachel Fairbanks (Jamesville, N.Y.) joined the previously stated duo of multi-time PL Academic Honor Roll recipients as the Oceanography major posted a 3.50 GPA in the fall semester. She is now a two-time honoree.
Six other Midshipmen were recognized by the Patriot League on the Academic Honor Roll for the first time in their careers: senior Hannah Godfrey (Elizabethtown, Ky., 3.53 GPA, Oceanography), sophomore Kara Kakascik (Weirton, W.Va., 3.35 GPA, Aerospace Engineering) and freshmen Morgan Bollinger (Lockport, Ill., 3.76 GPA), Annie Imhof (Great Mills, Md., 3.65 GPA), Eva Knowles (Belfair, Wash., 3.44 GPA) and Lilly Myers (Erie, Pa., 3.35 GPA).
In terms of the ECAC academic accolades, Jendrysik was selected to the President’s Honor Roll, while Fairbanks, Godfrey, Kakascik and McDonnell were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
Navy completed its 2017 season in November at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals and placed 12th overall. At the Patriot League Championship, the Mids finished third in the field.
