Four Women’s Cross Country Runners Named To Patriot League Honor Roll

Center Valley, Pa. -- Four members of the Navy women's cross country team were named to the 2003 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced today by Carolyn Schlie Femovich, Patriot League Executive Director.
Sixty-nine student-athletes from the eight league schools earned the honor for women's cross country, including Navy team captain Colleen Maloney (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic), who was named to the Superintendent's List. Maloney spent her winter break in Antarctica conducting research as part of her field of study in oceanography. She capped the 2003 season by being the fourth Midshipman to cross the finish line at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional to help the Mids take 11th place in the 25-team field.
Senior Stephanie Patterson (Mayville, Mich./Mayville), sophomore Gina DiPiero (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) and freshman Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla./Clay) were also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Patterson also earned Second-Team All-League honors after finishing in 14th place at the League Championship, while Barlow snagged First-Team accolades with a 10th-place finish. Both DiPiero and Barlow were also named to the Superintendent's List.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the seven League-sponsored fall championship sports. A total of 534 student-athletes were named to the League's Fall Academic Honor Roll, which includes the sports of men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
