Three Women's Cross Country Runners Named to Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

Center Valley, Pa. - Navy women's cross country senior captain Kristyn Kern (Commerce Township, Mich.) and sophomores Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla.) and Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo.) were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll Wednesday.

To qualify for the league's Academic Honor Roll, an athlete must be awarded a varsity letter in their respective sport and earn at least a 3.20 grade point average.

Kern, who is majoring in English, earned a 3.20 GPA in the fall. She competed in six of seven meets during the 2004 season and earned three top-20 finishes, including a ninth-place finish at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational.

Barlow, who is majoring in oceanography, attained a 3.84 GPA last semester. She ran in five races last season and placed among the top 20 in the individual standings three times. Barlow's highest finish was an 11th-place performance versus Army in the Star Meet.

Castro, who is majoring in political science, earned a 3.20 GPA in the fall. She ran in six of seven meets last season and was the top-Navy runner in five of those. Castro, who was a 2004 First-Team All-Patriot League selection, earned four top-five finishes throughout the season.

The 2004 Navy women's cross country team, which featured 21 underclassmen and just three seniors, won three races and placed second at the Patriot League Championship.

A total of 493 student-athletes were named to the league's Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 18 with 4.00 GPAs. The Fall Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
