ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Two runs at the prestigious Van Cortland Park in New York City, a home meet with four opponents, and a trip to West Point, N.Y., to face arch-rival Army highlight the Navy 2001 women’s cross country schedule, announced Monday by 15th-year head coach Karen Boyle.

“The schedule this year was designed to get onto key courses that championships will be held on,” said Boyle, whose career record at the Academy is 80-12 following a perfect 6-0 campaign in 2000. “Getting on these courses essentially gives us a practice meet in which to learn, which is a benefit for our relatively young team.”

The season will kick off for the Midshipmen on Aug. 31, when they travel over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to compete in the Seagull Invitational, hosted by Salisbury State.

Navy will host its only meet of the season on Sept. 8, when the Mids play host to American, Delaware, George Mason, and Maryland. Navy then has a three-week break before lacing up the spikes again on Sept. 29, when they will compete in the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortland Park.

Three road meets highlight the October schedule, as the Midshipmen travel to the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 6, before facing Army in the N-Star meet on Oct. 12. The month concludes with a return trip to Van Cortland Park on Oct. 26, when Navy will compete in the Heptagonal Championship.

The Mids will compete in two championship meets in the month of November. On Nov. 10, Navy travels to the NCAA District II Regional Championship in Bethlehem, Pa., in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championship, which takes place Nov. 19, in Greenville, S.C., hosted by Furman.
