The Mids finished the race with 20 points, well ahead of second-place finisher Christopher Newport (63). The Midshipmen swept the second- through 15th-place spots. Sara Waters (So./Aurora, Colo.) (18:56) was the first Navy runner to cross the finish line, followed by captain Melanie Stock (Sr./Mechanicsburg, Pa.) (19:00). Abby Wilder (Lake Geneva, Wis.) Lily Thomas (So./Somerville, N.J.), who sat out the 2000 season with an injury, finished in ninth-place (19:59) in her first collegiate race. "Our goal was to get the freshmen out for their first-collegiate meet and to learn how to run in packs," said Navy head coach Karen Boyle. "It is important to run in packs this year since we have no clear front-runner, and we had a very tight pack of runners up front today." Navy will next compete in the Navy Invitational on Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. American, Delaware, George Mason and Maryland will all compete against the Midshipmen.
