Navy Plays Host to Salty Sea Dog Invitational
Annapolis, Md. -- Navy women's cross country (2-0) will play host to American and UMBC on Sat., Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. for the 2nd Annual Salty Sea Dog Invitational. The race will be held on the USNA Cross Country Course (located at the golf course). The Mids opened the 2003 season last weekend at a tri-meet at Virginia Tech and captured two wins. Navy edged the Hokies in a tiebreaker and posted a second win against Christopher Newport. Freshman Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y./Pearl River) ran in her first-ever cross country race and claimed the top-Navy spot with third place. Fellow freshman Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) captured fourth place in her first race as a Mid. The Retrievers opened their season last week at the Metro Championships, finishing first out of six teams. Sophomore Stefanie Thomas won the 5K in a time of 19:14, while Cara Wettaufer placed second at 19:20. This will be the season opener for American.
