Ali Valenti Honored as Patriot League Runner of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After spearheading Navy’s effort at the William & Mary Collegiate Invitational this past Friday, Ali Valenti was recognized on Tuesday as the Patriot League M-F Athlete Female Runner of the Week.
Taking on a challenge field with 88 runners from eight different schools, Valenti battled for a top-five finish with William & Mary’s Kathryn Eng and George Washington’s Halley Brown at the end of the 5,000-meter race at the Eastern State Cross Country Course. While Eng clocked in fifth at 18:24.6, Brown held off Valenti by 0.3 seconds at 18:29.4 to 18:29.7.
That seventh place finish for Valenti was tops amongst Midshipmen athletes running at the event and helped the squad to a third place result in the team standings with 65 points. Charlotte and William & Mary finished right ahead of Navy with 61 and 63 points, respectively.
Valenti’s 18:29.7 mark is a new career-best time for 5K races, as her previous PR was an 18:30.6 at the 2017 season-opening Mount St. Mary’s 5K Duals.
This is the second Patriot League weekly award earned by the program in 2017 as last Tuesday, Sept. 12, Emily Craig was named the Rookie Runner of the Week.
Navy women’s cross country will step aside from competition this weekend before testing itself at the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Sept. 29 in Bethlehem, Pa.
