The Navy women’s cross country team, idle since winning the six-team Navy Invitational Sept. 8, will compete in the Seventh-Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City Saturday (12 noon).

At the Navy Invitational, team captain Melanie Stock (Sr./Mechanicsburg, Pa.) won her first collegiate race, finishing the 5,000-meter USNA Cross Country Course with a time of 19:08.94.

Sara Waters (So./Aurora, Colo.) placed fourth overall with a time of 19:46.22, while Abby Wilder (So./Lake Geneva, Wis.) (11th-place/19:55.25), Kristyn Kern (Fr./Commerce Twp., Mich.) (13th/19:57.38) and Stephanie Patterson (So./Mayville, Mich.) (16th/20:15.12) rounded out the Midshipmen’s top-five finishers.

The Iona Meet of Champions is clearly not short on talent, as six teams in the 22-team field are currently ranked or receiving votes in the Sept. 25, FinishLynx Women’s Cross Country Rankings. Heading the field is perennial Ivy League-power Yale, who is ranked sixth. Boston College checks in at No. 12, while Villanova (No. 20), Boston University (T-23rd) and Michigan (T-25th) round out the field’s top-25 entries. Brown (T-33rd) also received votes in the latest rankings.
