Whipple Named Patriot League Runner of the Week
Oct. 3, 2006 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy senior women's cross country runner Justine Whipple (Duxbury, Mass.) has been selected the Patriot League Runner of the Week for the second time in 2006, it was released on Tuesday afternoon. Racing against a field filled with All-Americans and the top-ranked team in the country at the Stanford Invitational last Saturday, Whipple placed 15th out of 124 runners with a season-best time of 21:18. Her clocking was 1:05 off individual champion Arianna Lambie's 20:13 effort from Stanford, an All-American last season. The product of Duxbury, Mass., has placing among the top-15 runners in each of her last-seven meets, while registering Navy's fastest time in each of her past-nine meets. The senior first earned Patriot League Runner-of-the-Week honors this season for her first-place performance at Colgate's Harry Lang Invitational on Sept. 1. In that meet, Whipple established a new invitational record time and fifth-fastest showing in course history with her 22:57 clocking. The Midshipmen will close out their regular season by hosting the Star Meet against Army on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the USNA Cross Country Course. Race time is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., to be followed by the Alumni Open at 10:45 a.m.
