Navy Women’s Cross Country Falls in Star Meet to Army, 19-40

WEST POINT, N.Y. –– The Navy women’s cross country team (5-1) dropped its first meet of the season, losing to Army in the annual Star Meet, 19-40.

Team captain Melanie Stock (Sr./Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finished three-tenths of a second behind Army’s second-place finisher, placing third with a time of 23:20.4 on the 6,000-meter course. Lisa Procaccini (Jr./Vienna, Va.) (24:02) ran to a sixth-place showing, while Stephanie Patterson (So./Mayville, Mich.) (eighth-place/24:18) and Kristyn Kern (Fr./Commerce Twp., Mich.) (10th/24:41) also placed in the top 10.

Closing out the scoring for the Midshipmen was the trio of Abby Wilder (So./Lake Geneva, Wis.) (13th/24:49), Maureen Carr (Jr./Fair Haven, Md.) (14th/24:58) and (15th/25:19).

Navy will next race at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City, as they will compete in the Heptagonal Championship, Oct. 26.
