Annapolis, Md. - The Navy women's cross country team will look to win its third-consecutive meet Saturday as it plays host to Army in the Star Meet (11:30 a.m.) at the USNA Cross Country Course.
"We have been running well so far this season," said head coach Karen Boyle, who is 11-6 all time versus Army. "One of our goals coming into this season was to capture the N-Star and we have been working really hard towards it."
Navy has been led by sophomore Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo.) this season. Castro, who did not compete at the Gulden Invitational two weeks ago, has finished in the top five of the individual standings twice this season.
Fellow sophomore Christine Taranto (Coraopolis, Pa.) also has been a steady performer for the Midshipmen as she has finished in the top 10 in three of the four meets she has run in this season.
"Christine has been a terrific surprise for us this season," Boyle added. "She came on strong near the end of last season and used that to train hard in the offseason. I'm proud of her."
Another underclassmen who has been a strong runner this season is freshman Kyleigh Millhouse (Boiling Springs, Pa.). Millhouse has finished in the top 10 of the individual standings in the last two races and her seventh-place finish at the Gulden Invitational was tops among all Navy runners.
Other runners that will be counted on to try and capture the N-Star are senior team captain Kristyn Kern (Commerce Township, Mich.), sophomores Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla.) and Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.) and freshman Arwyn Becker (Avon, Colo.).
The Midshipmen will be looking to end a three-meet losing streak to the Black Knights. Navy last defeated Army by a 20-41 count back in the 1998 season.
