Emily Craig Selected as Patriot League Rookie of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the second time in 2017, Emily Craig has been recognized by the Patriot League as the conference’s M-F Athlete Female Rookie Runner of the Week. The freshman was honored for her strong effort at this past Saturday’s Army-Navy Star Meet.
Racing as one of 24 athletes in the head-to-head competition at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Craig (Fr., Reistertown, Md.) navigated the 5.6k course in a time of 20:02.1. Her time ranked fifth overall and in a near dead heat with teammate Grace West, who clocked in at 20:01.9. Craig was part of a trio of Mids, who finished consecutively in third, fourth and fifth place. The Maryland native was one of just two freshman runners to place in the top-15 in the Star Meet.
Individually, this is Craig’s second Patriot League Rookie of the Week nod as she was honored on Sept. 12. As a program, this is Navy’s third weekly award of 2017. Ali Valenti garnered accolades as the Runner of the Week on Sept. 19.
Navy women’s cross country is away from competition this weekend as the team prepares for the 2017 Patriot League Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Bethlehem, Pa.
