Women's Cross Country Defeats Army

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's cross country team defeated Army, 20-41, Saturday morning.

Senior Melissa Foon led the way for the Midshipmen (6-0), finishing the 6000-meter course in 21:50.1. Senior captain Amy Baxter was right behind her, taking second with a time of 22:59.6.

"It was a great day for Navy cross country," said head coach Karen Boyle. "Foon was brilliant. Baxter battled Emily Potter of Army throughout the race."

Navy also had strong showings from Lisa Procaccini, Abby Wilder and Stephanie Patterson. Procaccini took fourth with a time of 23:06.2, while Wilder took sixth with a time of 23:21.20. Patterson took seventh with a time of 23:26.9.

Melanie Stock and Maureen Carr also contributed to the Navy win. Stock took eighth with a time of 23:42.3 and Carr took ninth with a time of 24:10.4.

"I give a lot of credit to Procaccini, Patterson, Carr, Stock and Wilder," said Boyle. "They ran very well throughout the race as a pack."

Navy is back in action Friday, October 27 when they compete in the Heptagonals.
