Melissa Foon Sets Navy Record at Heptagonal Championship

NEW YORK, N.Y.-- Melissa Foon (Sr./Lexington, Ky.) broke the school record in leading the Navy women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Heptagonal Cross Country Championship in New York City's Van Cortlandt Park Friday afternoon.

Foon was Navy's top finisher, taking third with a time of 17:39, breaking Kerry O'Neill's mark of 17:54 set in 1992. Sara Tindall of Brown took first place with a time of 17:32.

Captain Amy Baxter (Sr./Cheshire, Conn.) took 19th with a time of 18:54. Maureen Carr (So./Fair Haven, Md.) came in 42nd with a time of 18:57 and Abby Wilder (Fr./Lake Geneva, Wis.) was right behind her in 43rd with a time of 18:58.

Navy will return to action Nov. 11, when it heads to the District II Regional, hosted by Penn State.
