Two Freshmen Earn First-Team All-League Honors
Easton, Pa. -- Navy women's cross country took third place at the 2003 Patriot League Championship today on the campus of Lafayette. Four Mids secured all-league status by finishing in the top-20. “We worked really well as a team today,” noted head coach Karen Boyle. “Everyone was very focused throughout the tough parts of the course, and I was really proud of the way they competed. They gave 110% the entire time and we're looking forward to keeping the momentum up.” Freshman Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) completed her fourth-consecutive race as the top Navy finisher today, as she claimed fifth place with a time of 21:06.6 on the 5,800-meter course. Freshman Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla./Clay) also earned first-team all-league honors after placing 10th with a time of 21:39.1. Freshman Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y./Pearl River) secured 13th place with a time of 21:43.1, and senior Stephanie Patterson (Mayville, Mich./Mayville) came in two seconds later to take 14th place. Freshman Juliann Jordan (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Punahou) took 21st place with a time of 21:55.20 as the Mids took third place in the meet with 63 points. American took first place with 30 points as the Eagles took the top-three finishes. Army edged out Navy with 57 points to take second place. “This was our first year competing in the Patriot League,” added Boyle. “We're really looking forward to competing in this league and taking a shot at the championship within the next few years.” The Mids will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in two weeks as Navy travels to Lock Haven, Pa. on Nov. 15.
