AMES, Iowa -- With 20 degree temperatures and a wind-chill factor of minus 14, senior Melissa Foon (Lexington, Ky.) finished 75th out of 252 runners at the NCAA Cross Country Championship Monday morning in Ames, Iowa.
Foon finished the 6000-meter course in 21:47, ahead of Mid-Atlantic Region Champion Ann McGranahan of Villanova. Foon took third place behind McGranahan at the Mid-Atlantic Region meet.
Foon is the highest-placing Midshipmen at a National meet, beating Kerry O'Neill's 91st-place finish in 1992 (18:32.9 5000m).
"I'm extremely proud of her (Foon)," said Navy head coach Karen Boyle. "She had a great season and competed very well under the circumstances. Finishing in the top 75 is definitely an impressive finish."
